This special altar cloth has been dyed and screenprinted by hand with an original illustration entitled the Amulets of Bastet. Some of the earliest relics of witchcraft date back thousands of years ago to Ancient Egypt. Egyptian priests and priestesses were among the earliest practitioners of ritual, ceremonial, and herbal magic as well as divination. A pantheistic society, among the deities of Ancient Egypt were Isis, the mother-goddess, and Bastet, the goddess of cats. Egyptians associated cats with the moon and they were revered for their ability to hunt vermin and kill venomous snakes, so much so that they were often mummified and entombed. This back patch, drawn and printed by Adrienne Rozzi, depicts two hairless cats surrounded by amulets. Below the cats is the Eye of Horus, bringing protection and good health; Above is the Ankh, symbolizing the key of eternal life that is held by many deities and rulers. The Ankh is flanked by two crescent moons that hang just above the mystical felines. Any wearer of this patch will be blessed with good luck, protection, and may channel the magic of Ancient Egypt!
