This special altar cloth has been dyed and screenprinted by hand with an original illustration of Hecate. Hecate is the greek goddess of magic, witchcraft, the moon, ghosts, necromancy, and sorcery. She is often called the goddess of crossroads and therefore depicted throughout history in triple form, facing all directions yet to be traveled. Her name is derived from the greek word ‘hekatos’ and means ‘worker from afar,’ which alludes to her magical abilities. She is often depicted holding pomegranates, as she assisted Demeter with her search for Persephone in the underworld. Her two torches also allude to this tale.
Printed with gold ink on black hand dyed linen with battenburg lace details in the center and along the edges.
