A skull is cradled by an interlocking wand, besom, and sword. The wand, often fashioned from a tree branch, is used to direct magical will and intent. This powerful tool symbolizes the magical force of the human mind at it’s highest potential. The besom, or magically imbued broomstick, has been associated with witchcraft dating back to early Pagan cultures where it was used to expel negative energy and spirits from a dwelling. A true besom crafted from hazel wood and birch twigs represents the tree of life which also finds roots in European and Scandinavian Pagan beliefs. Additionally, the broom has long been viewed as a representation of both masculine (the handle) and feminine (the bristles) making it a powerful symbol for the whole of life. Completing the trinity is a sword, inherently powerful in it’s ability to bring change which can be constructive or destructive. This mutable characteristic is what makes swords dangerous in a literal sense and also when it comes to divination. The sword stands for action, force, and power. Together the wand, besom, and sword form a trinity which embodies the idea of a well-rounded and fulfilling magical path filled with intent successfully put into motion through action. The number three is associated with divine spiritual power, reinforcing the strength of the trinity. At the center of these tools rests a human skull, the morbid reminder that every path must end. Yet the spirit will carry on evermore supported by the knowledge and lessons learned throughout each reincarnation of it’s waking magical life.
